Layered vanadyl organophosphonates of general formula VO(RPO[sub 3]) nH[sub 2]O, where R = CH[sub 3], C[sub 2]H[sub 5], C[sub 6]H[sub 5], were synthesized in alcoholic solution. Intercalation of alkanols, C[sub n]H[sub 2n+1]OH (n = 1 - 4), and benzyl alcohol with each phosphonate previously prepared is reported and discussed. Samples and intercalation compounds were characterized for their X-ray powder diffraction patterns, IR spectra, and TGA analysis.
