Compounds based on the vanadyl formate double layer
- Univ. of Southampton (United Kingdom)
New compounds, based on the interpenetrating double layers found in oxo-vanadium (IV) formate monohydrate, VO(HCO{sub 2}){sub 2}{center_dot}H{sub 2}O, have been synthesized. Ligand water is replaced by formic acid in VO(HCO{sub 2}){sub 2}{center_dot}HCO{sub 2}H, or by interlayer bridging fluoride with additional (NH{sub 4} or K) cations in [VO(HCO{sub 2}){sub 2}]{sub 2}{center_dot}NH{sub 4}F{center_dot}NH{sub 4}OH, [VO(HCO{sub 2}){sub 2}]{sub 2}{center_dot}KF{center_dot}NH{sub 4}OH, and [VO(HCO{sub 2}){sub 2}]{sub 2}{center_dot}KF{center_dot}1/2KOH. Indexed XRPD for the layer compounds and vibrational (IR and Raman) data including those for the related chain polymer K{sub 2}VO(HCO{sub 2}){sub 2} are given. Parallels are drawn with the lamellar phase vanadyl phosphates and arsenates.
