Management of the Department of Energy
Energy Secretary Donald Hodel was the principal witness at a hearing held to review the management of the Energy Department during his tenure. The committee noted areas of improvement since the previous secretary's effort to dismantle DOE, although some personnel problems continue. Hodel was asked to address his plans for implementing a permanent division on conservation, his renewed emphasis on high-sulfur coal technologies, natural gas decontrol and import policies, and the status of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Martha Hesse, Assistant Secretary of Management and Administration accompanied Mr. Hodel. Additional letters, responses, and charts submitted for the record follow their testimony. (DCK)
