Fiscal year 1984 Department of Energy authorization. Hearings before the Committee on Science and Technology, House of Representatives, Ninety-Eighth Congress, First Session, February 8; March 14, 1983
Volume I of the hearing record covers the testimony of DOE Secretary Donald P. Hodel and Assistant Secretary Martha O. Hesse. The September 8, 1983 hearing was Secretary Hodel's first appearance before the committee to describe his management and policy plans since taking office. He responded to the committee's concerns over continued dependence on oil imports, the shifts in funding to nuclear research programs, implementation of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, and the need for continued support of the basic energy sciences. Hesse discussed the rationale for reducing the DOE Office of Management and Administration by $15 million to $116 million on the assumption of DOE's reorganization. (DCK)
