Managing water resources: lessons from Florida and Georgia

Journal Article · · Carol. Plann.; (United States)

The lessons learned from Florida's two-tiered comprehensive water management and Georgia's integrated water management programs developed since passage of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972 indicate that the southeast region is ideally suited for water management programs. As sunbelt growth increases demands on the water resources, states will want to institute mechanism that accommodate development while protecting their water resources. It is important that state legislators avoid creating legal and organizational barriers which prevent effective management as they struggle with these issues. 1 table.
