A method and material are described for inhibiting the corrosion of steel by acidic compounds. The inhibitor is a mixture of a nitrile and an oxime or a mixture of a compound selected from nitriles and oximes with at least one compound selected from aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes and ketones and organic amines. The inhibitor may be added to the acid or applied directly to the steel. (3 claims)
