/sup 180/Ta/sup g,m/ production cross sections form the /sup 180/Hf(p,n) reaction

Cross sections have been determined for the production of the J/sup ..pi../ = 1/sup +/ /sup 180/Ta/sup g/ and the J/sup ..pi../= 9/sup -/ /sup 180/Ta/sup m/ from the /sup 180/Hf(p,n) reaction. The /sup 180/Ta/sup g/ cross sections were determined from measurements of ..gamma..-rays emitted following the electron-capture and ..beta..-decay of this 8.1-hour state. Total /sup 180/Ta production cross sections were determined from measurements of the thick-target (p,n) yield. /sup 180/Ta/sup m/ cross sections were calculated by subtracting the /sup 180/Ta/sup g/ cross sections from the total (p,n) cross sections. These measurements are compared with the results of a statistical-model evaporation calculation.
