The gene for tyrosine aminotransferase (TAT; L-tyrosine; 2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase, EC 2.6.1.5) is a convenient model for studying hormonal genetic induction in mammals. For a detailed investigation of the molecular mechanisms of the influence of steroid hormones on the transcription of eukaryotic genes a knowledge of the primary structures of these genes is required. The authors have previously cloned the TAT genes of the rat and of man and have partially determined the nucleotide sequence of the rat TAT gene. The aim of the present work was to establish the primary structure of the human TAT gene. The complete, uninterrupted gene sequence (10989 b.p.) is presented.
