A study of solar water heaters was made. A design was made for a solar water heater incorporting a flat plate collector, heat exchanger, and storage tank. The heater was constructed according to the design and was connected in series with the existing hot water system. The system was monitored over a period of 505 days. Repairs and alterations were made where indicated. It was concluded that this approach to heating water for domestic use requires further development before becoming economically feasible.
