Journal Article · · Harvard Bus. Rev.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5022255
Efforts by multinational companies to minimize the importance of their power are seen to be an inappropriate, contradictory, and self-defeating public relations effort. The author recommends acknowledging the benefits and realities of the economic and political power they exert. The blame for public misconceptions is placed on corporate executives whose view of their own role is outdated. The rise of multinational corporations is traced and recommendations made for their defense on positive arguments of reducing tariffs, reducing international tensions, developing local management, and providing economic stimulus. He also cautions that multinationals are vulnerable to risks of threats, bribes, currency speculation, environmental insensitivity, and weapons trade criticism.
