Free market essential to energy development

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)
OSTI ID:6586626
This oil company executive blames overcontrol and overregulation of market forces for weakening American industry and creating a burden for the taxpayer. Contradictory trade policies are shown to be a result of blaming oil imports for economic problems when a balanced budget and higher productivity can be restored by returning to a free market. Public misconceptions of oil company profits fail to see the connection between earnings and capital expenditures for employment and expansion. The author criticizes import and corporate income taxes and divestiture efforts for deterring the solution of energy-supply problems. He points to the success of Japan and West Germany, where 100 percent of the energy is imported, but the government and industry are able to work with rather than against each other.
