Thesis. The isochronous Grenoble cyclotron consists of two 80 deg sectorial dees to which a high-frequency voltage is applied and two earthed counter-dees. It can be used to accelerate protons, deuterons, alpha particles, and helium ions (singly or doubly charged) to different energies. In the future, this machine will be used to accelerate heavy ions. The purpose of the research carried out was the practical determination of the trajectories at the center of the cyclotron. The distribution of the magnetic field was determined by the C. S. F. Company. The distribution of the electric fteld was determined using a magnetic analogy on a scale 3 mock-up of the cyclotron. The calculation procedure developed by the I.S.N. at Grenoble was used. The trajectories deviate very little from the meridian plane of the magnetic field because symmetry exists only in the O(z) direction. The trajectories in the median and vertical planes were decoupled. In the case of the determination of the resolution in the median plane, the weak nature of the energies in the central region is taken into consideration and the nonrelativistic approximation is valid. A step-by-step integration was carried out. In the case of the vertical trajectories B/sub x/ and B/sub y/ cannot be neglected as they are both multiplied by large quantities: v/sub y/ and v/sub x/; the equation of motion is integrated using measurements made in the meridian plane. A numerical method capable of being adapted to a computer was developed for determining equipotentials, the method being based on over-relaxation. ( FR)
