Fontenay-aux-Roses Tokamak (TFR) and the steps toward a thermonuclear reactor (in French)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4934911
From congress on the centenary of the French Physics Society; Vittel, France (25 May 1973). The properties of the Tokamak magnetic configuration are recalled. The role of the poloidal field associated with the plasma current is emphasized. The main characteristics of the TFR device are summarized (plasma radius = 20 cm; torus major radius = 98 cm; plasma current = 400 kA; toroidal field 60 kG). The first results are presented (plasma current = 200 kA during 0.25 s, with a toroidal field of 40 kG). The major problems to be solved for an ignition experiment are outlined, with emphasis on the impurity content of the plasma. (FR)
