The Tokomak TFR is a plasma research machine which by its performance marks an important stage towards controlled fusion. Its nominal specifications are: tore large radius R=98cm; plasma radius a=20cm; maximum plasma current Isub(p)=400kA; maximum magnetic field on the axis Bsub(T)=60kG. The general lay- out of Tokomaks the essential technological characteristics of the machine and the various sources of energy needed for its operation are described. (FR)
