HEMORRHAGIC SYNDROME IN RATS FED IRRADIATED BEEF. Progress Report No. 5, September 15, 1960 to March 15, 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4843100
Mechanisms involved in the etiology of hemorrhage in rats fed irradiated beef were studied. It was found that certain oxidized lipids, especially squalene and vitamin A acid, are hemorrhagenic. Various proteins exerted very different effects in producing hypoprothrombinemia. Hemorrhagenicity was generally intensified by lipid extraction but the difference between casein and soybean protein was still observed. Preparation and preliminary metabolic studies of radioactive vitamin K/sub 1/ were carried out. (auth)
