Development of the understanding of the influence of wetting behavior on quenching and the merits in these developments of Prof. Imao Tamura

The knowledge about the heat transfer during the three cooling phases {open_quote}Film Boiling{close_quote}, {open_quote}Nucleat Boiling {close_quote} and {open_quote}Convection Cooling{close_quote} is compared with the fundamental quenching studies conducted by Professor Tamura 40 years ago. It is shown that his assumptions from that time are more than topical nowadays. Not only his experimental works show his excellent scientific power but also his interpretation of experimental results, especially the part about the influence of convection on cooling and its applicability in industrial quenching tanks. The actuality is shown also by other presentations at this ASM - meeting. Particular attention will be paid on heat transfer mechanisms and data analysis.
