A reactor fuel element is described which may be used for service up to the order of 2000 deg C. The fuel element consists of a hollow member of non- metallic fuel material supported internally by a porous mass of non-fissile refractory material. The fuel element is enclosed in a protective sheath. Uranium dioxide and magnesium oxide may be used respectively as the fuel material and the refractory material. A description is also given for the train of interconnecting clusters which support the fuel elements in the reactor channels. The clusters consist of spiders. (N.W.R.)
