ABS>Solvent extraction of U233 and Pa233 from irradiated thorium was carried out by the discontinuous countercurrent extraction technique in hydrochloric acid solutions of various concentrations with tri-n-butyl phosphine oxide (TBPO). The results showed that 1 N HCl with 1% TBPOtoluene solution is the best medium to effect such separation. A higher decontamination factor for uranium fraction, and clean separation of protactinium from thorium were obtained under these conditions.
