SEPARATION OF PROTACTINIUM FROM OTHER ELEMENTS BY EXTRACTION WITH N-BENZOYL- PHENYLHYDROXYLAMINE (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zh. Analit. Khim.
OSTI ID:4088296
A study was made of protactinium extraction by means of N- benzoylphenylhydroxylamine (BPHA) with benzene and other solvents from sulfuric and hydrochloric acid solutions. It was established thnt on extraction from 7 N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ up to 15 mg/ml of Al/sup 3+/, Fe/sup 3+/, Bi/sup 3+/, Mn/sup 2+/ , Cr/sup 3+/, Ni/sup 2+/, Sn/sup 2+, Sn(IV), Ti/sup 3+/, La/sup 3+/, Ce(IV), Th(IV), and U(IV) do not effect the percent extraction of protactinium with a 0.1 M solution of BPHA in benzene. It was found that protactinium can be separated from iron, niobium, rare earths, thorium, and uranium. A method was developed for separating Pa/sup 233/ from thorium irradiated by neutrons by extraction from 7 N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ with a 0.1 M solution of BPHA in benzene. A color reaction of protactinium with BPHA is described. (auth)
