The Characteristics of Chronic Injuries Caused by Strontium-90; OSOBENNOSTI KHRONICHESKOGO PORAZHENIYA, VYZVANNOGO STRONTSIEM-90

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4838174
Data are presented on chronic injuries induced in dogs by Sr/sup 90/ doses of 0.0002 to 0.02 mu c/kg/day for 4 to 7 years. In chronic cases both the skeleton and soft tissue participate in the uptake. The central nervous system and neuroendocrine systems react earlier than the blood. The lower the dose the longer is the latent period of injury. However, even when exposure is terminated pathological processes continue. The life span of progenies from radiation injured dogs (0.02 to 0.2 mu c) is shorter than from normal animals. The progenies exhibit weakness in the central nervous system, heart vessels, and blood system. (R.V.J.)
