BS>When polyethylene was irradiated, the electric conductivity was increased during irradiation and gradually decreased after the irradiation. The induced electric conductivity of polyethylene by irradiation increased with increasing temperature and increasing radiation dose. The electron theory of the irradiation conductivity of high polymers and the distribution of electron traps are discussed. ln the low dosage range, no permanent change in the induced conductivity occurred, but in the high dosage range some degree of irreversible chemical change occurred in the polymer, so that the max. conductivity was observed several hours after the irradiation. When polyethylene was irradiated, crosslinking incressed. The electric conductivity was at a max. when the material being irradiated became rubber-like; then, the conductivity gradually decreased while the polyethylene became a glass-like material with increasing dosage.
