A PUSH-UP TYPE Co$sup 60$ IRRADIATION FACILITY

The 500-c Co/sup 90/ source was enclosed in a stainless steelplated Pb cylinder with outside dia. of 60 mm and 780 m;n high. The effective thickness of the Pb cylinder shield is 260 mm. For safety measure, a mechanical interlocking system and a monitor alarm system are provided. The dose rate is about l05 r/hr near the source. The entire irradiation facility is an underground installation. The source is raised by a reversible motor at a rate of 600 mm/min. An eccentric rotation disc-type shutter is provided at the top of the source cylinder. The shutter speed is l80 deg /min. The door between the irradiation room and the control room is equipped with a magnetic key and a key switch. The system is interlocked so that the source does not move unless the door is locked. The guide tube for the source has an outside dia. of 40 mm. In case of a malfunction in the servomechanism for the source, the source will return automatically to the stor-age point. The leakage is below 0.6to l.2 mr/hr. (OID)
