IRRADIATION "FACTOR-DEPENDENCY." SOME VINYL MONOMERS: IRRADIATION CYCLE. Radiation Chemistry Laboratory Series Research Report No. 4

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4837047

The effects of the dose, dose rate, irradiation cycle, and temperature are reported for the radioinduced polymerization of acrylonitrile, butyl acrylate, styrene, vinyl acetate, arylonitrile-- styrene mixtures, butyl acrylate- - styrene mixtures, vinyl acetate-- styrene mixtures, 1,1,3-trihydro perfluoropropyl acrylate, and 1, 1,7-trihydroperfluoroheptyl acrylate. It was concluded that: something more than a three-minute cycle at 75 deg C is the most efficient; the relative efficiency of a time cycle over continuous irradiation decreases with an increase in dose rate; efficiency decreases markedly at the higher dose rates; previous reaction rate formulations are not applicable; and the most desirable time cycle and temperature is a function of the monomer system.
