IRRADIATION "FACTOR-DEPENDENCY." SOME VINYL MONOMERS: DEGASSING. Radiation Chemistry Laboratory Series Research Report No. 5

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4837028

Degassing effects were studied in the radioinduced polymerization of acrylonitrile, butyl acrylate, styrene, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile-- styrene mixtures, butyl acrylate-styrene mixtures, and vinyl acetate-- styrene mixtures at 25 and 75 deg C. The results showed that: degassing may significantly increase the polymer yield obtained in the polynmerization of vinyl monomers; and the relative importance of degassing is interdependent on the monomer system, the dose rate, and in certain cases the presence of an inert atmosphere, such as argon.
