An improved and highly efficient process is presented for separating Th from Th and U nitrate mixtures dissolved in an organic solvent. The process comprises extracting the organic solution with an aqueous solution of suifate, bisulfate, or oxalic ions which selectively precipitate Th as an insoluble crystalline compound in the aqueous phase. The organic solvent preferably is an alkyl phosphate, and the selective precipitating agent preferably is free sulfuric or oxalic acid. Ten examples of the process are given. (D.L.C.)
