ISOTOPE SEPARATION BY COUNTER-CURRENT ELECTROMIGRATION IN SYSTEMS OF FUSED HALOGENIDES (in French)
A counter-current electromigration technique in a fused bath was studied.as a possible method for the separation of lithium isotopes. The principle of counter-current electromigration is outlined, and the experimental conditions are discussed. Electromigration was studied in fused LiBr--KBr and LiBr--NaBr. In both, the system evolved until the ratio LiBr/KBr or LiBr/NaBr attained a value of 1.7, which corresponds to the equalization of the migration velocities. In both systems, the ratio Li/sup 7/Li/sup 6/ rapidly increased in the anode. It is shown how the existence of ionic associations in the fused salts can be represented with-n the framework of the classical theories of the liquid state. (J.S.R.)
