Determination of Neutron Temperatures in the Core of the RFR with Fission Probe; BESTIMMUNG DER NEUTRON-ENTEMPERATUR IN DER AKTIVEN ZONE DES RFR MIT SPALTSONDEN

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4836064
The neutron temperature in the core of the RFR was determined as T/sub n/ = 422 plus or minus 22 deg K by comparing the fission product activities of Pu/ sup 239/ and U/sup 235/ samples. The fission products were gathered on filter paper and the BETA activity was measured with an end-window GM counter. There was only a negligible perturbation of the flux distribution in the vi-cinity of the measurement site because the sample holders consisted of polystyrol and because the irradiations were carried out in the moderator (light water) between the fuel rods. There was no necessity for foil corrections because the layers of fissionable material were very thin. (auth)
