COMPETITION BETWEEN LYMPHOID CELLS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES IN RADIATION CHIMERAS

Irradiated F/sub 1/ (CBA x C57BL) hybrids were treated with CBA bone marrow and lymphoid cells. This treatment resulted in a high percentage of early mortality due to a graft-vs.-host reaction. It was found that the additional injection of lymphoid cells of old radiation chimeras (CBA in C57BL) could largely prevent mortality. It is assumed that in this situation the tolerant lymphoid cells of old chimeras compete with the intolerant parent lymphoid cells, with consequent decrease in the proliferation and lethal effect of the parent cells.
