A simplified procedure for the spectrophotometric determination of iron in uranium alloys containing Mo, Ru, Pb, Rh, and Zr was developed. Ammonium hydroxide was used to separate iron from molybdenum and the iron content was determined by measuring the absorbance of iron thiocyanate complex. The procedure was tested on synthetic solutions and was found to be satisfactory. lt was also applied to the determination of iron in unirradiated uranium-5% fission element alloys used in EBR-II melt refining studies. Data are tabulated. (P.C.H.)
