THE EFFECT OF GAMMA RADIATION ON VISCOSITY AND ENZYMATIC ACTIVITY OF UREASE SOLUTIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4834282
lssued by Scbool of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks AFB, Tex. The effects of gamma irradiation up to 750 kr on urease solutions; on urease solutions containing the disulfide STA(GES)sub 2! of 2-guanidoetbyl mercaptan (GESH); and on solutions contasning the mixed disulfide of urease and GESH (ureaseSEG) are studied. Tbe extent of the irradiatioiw effects is measured by changes in the viscosities and enzymatic activities of tbe solutions upon irradiation. The protective effects of (GES)/sub 2/ and GESH against radiation are examined. (T.F.H.)
