RESEARCH OF RADIOISOTOPE PRODUCTION WITH FAST NEUTRONS. II. PREPARATION OF $sup 24$Na OF HIGH SPECIFIC ACTIVITY

Na/sup 24/ of high specific activity was produced in JRR-l reactor by the reaction Mg//sup 24/(n,p)Na/sup 24/. The cation exchange method was applied to separate Na/sup 24/ from neutron irradiated magnesium oxide. Na/sup 24/ of up to 300 times as high specific activity as that produced by the reaction Na//sup 23/(n, gamma )Na/sup 24/ was prepared. The reaction Al/sup 27/ (n,a)Na/sup 24/, which produces Na in carrier-free, was also investigated. There was no difference on the production yield of Na/sup 24/ between the (n,p) and (n, alpha ) reaction, but the former was preferential in regard to the chemical treatment. (auth)
