Preparation of basic zirconium carbonates ZrOCl/sub 2/Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/- - H/sub 2/0 and ZrOCl/sub 2/-K/sub 2/C0/sub 3/-H/sub 2/0 by p recipitation is - described. Precipitation of zirconium begins at pH < 3.8 with complete dissolution at pH 8.5 to 9. The chloride and sodium ion participate in precipitation together with carbonate ion in ZrOCl/sub 2/-Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/-H/ sub 2/0 and in the ZrOClr degree K/sup +/ ions participate. In the latter system the precipitation of Zr begins earlier than in Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ system but dissolving of the precipitate is completed later. (R.V.J.)
