RADIOETHYLATION OF PARAFFIN HYDROCARBONS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4833944
A hydrocarbon conversion process is given for upgrading refinery gases and light virgin naphtha to high-octane gasoline components. The process comprises irradiating a paraffinic hydrocarbon of 2 to 8 carbon atoms in the presence of 0.1 to 30 wt% ethylene at 500 to 800 deg F and 150 to 600 psig until a total dose of 10/sup -4/ to 10 kwh per pound of hydrocarbon feed is received. Several examples of the process are given in which the following paraffins were radioethylated: isobutane, n-butane, propane, and pentane. (D.L.C.)
