A method of industrial ion exchange refining of rare earth elements and that of recovery of EDTA and copper from ion-exchange effluent solution in the case of refining of lanthanum are discussed. The features of the methods are such that the refining of rare earth elements and recovery of EDTA and copper are continuously operated, and pure rare earth elements are obtained at high refining rates.
