INVESTIGATIONS ON SPARK DISCHARGES IN T-SHAPED DISCHARGE VESSELS (in German)
Oscillographic measurements on the current and voltage in a spark discharge in a T-shaped discharge vessel are reported. Pictures of impact wave broadening were taken with a rotation camera. Argon was used as the filling gas, and the initial pressure in the discharge vessel was varied from 0.2 to 500 Torr. Output and energy were calculated from the oscillograms. The rotational camera pictures gave the impact wave velocity in dependence on time and place. It was found that the energy consumed in the spark up to a given time is pressure dependent and assumes a minimum value at about 5 Torr. The transient pattern of the impact wave velocity, the relationship between the transient occurrence of maxima in output and impact wave velocity, and the dependence of the maximum impact wave velocity on the pressure were compared with the works of Kolb and Morgenroth. It was shown that the model used by Morgenroth permits an interpretation of these experimental results. (tr-auth)
