SPECTROSCOPIC DETERMINATION OF THE SPIN OF Lu$sup 176$ AND OF THE NUCLEAR MAGNETIC AND QUADRUPOLE MOMENT OF Lu$sup 175$ AND Lu$sup 17$$sup 6$ (in French)
The hyperfine structure of several lines of Lu I and Lu II, emttted by a sample of lutetium containing 74.5% Lu/sup 176/ and 25.5% Lu/sup 175/, were recorded using a Fabry-Perot spectrometer. From the ratio of intensities of the hyperfine structure components, tt is deduced that I/sup 176/ = 7, confirming the result of Kaliteevsku and Chaika. The ratios of the moments of the two isotopes are: mu /sup 175/ mu /sup 176/= 0-7109 plus or minus 0.0050 and Q/sup 175/Q/ sup 176/ = 0-71 plus or minus 0-01- The value proposed by Steudel, mu = + 2.0 plus or minus 0.2 mu /sub N/is confirmed, but the value of the quadrupole moment must be revised: Qi/sup 175/= (4.0 plus or minus 0.5).1/(1 - R)-l0/sup - 24/ (5.6 plus or minus 0.6).1/(1 - R') 10/sup -24/ cm/sup 2/, where R and R are the Sternheimer corrections for the 6p and 5d electrons, respectively. The results are compared wlth the predictions of the model of Mottelson and Nillson, the ratios of the quadrupole moments indicating that the deformations of the two nuclei are identical. (auth)
