IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO STEAM TURBINES AND THE LIKE

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4832464
A power turbine-boiling water reactor arrangement is designed with the power turbine disposed within the reactor. In operation, the reactor is rotated by the turbine, and power may be abstracted, e.g., by a gear mechanism. The advantages of such an arrangement are: (1) The greater pressure at the outer periphery of the reactor, due to centrifugal forces, will cause the boiling to occur at the inner water surface, thereby preventing steam from diluting the water's moderating properties. (2) The steam, being subject to centrifugal forces, will be drier passing to the turbine. (D.L.C.) Research Reactors
