Methods of distinguishing contributions of pionic S and p waves in the reactions pi /sup +/ + d yields p + p and pi /sup -/ + d yields n + n below the 3/2, 3/2 resonance energy are considered. Amplitude phenomenological determination for the three possible final states is discussed. (L.N.N.)
