THE NEW POWER STATIONS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Energy
OSTI ID:4830816
Improvements made in basic design and construction techniques over a period of five years for the Calder Hall type reactors are examined and discussed with respect to economic factors. Information from research work on reactor materials and safety systems was also studied so that better designs at lower costs may be achieved. With the present rate of progress, new power stations based on nuclear fuel will be fully competitive with coal- and oilfired plants within ten years. The locations and sizes of British reactors are given along with reactor characteristics. (N.W.R.)
