A simple method is given for the resistance welding of materials which may be affected by alloying with traces of metals from the welding electrodes. The method comprises interposing a mild steel strip or clip between the workpiece and the electrodes; the strip or clip is of such thickness that the heat generation therein is less than that in the workpiece. One special application of the method is in the welding of magnesium alloy, e.g., Magnox. (D.L.C.)
