THE REMOTE AFTER-EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON HEMOPOIESIS

Journal Article · · Bull. Exptl. Biol. Med. (U.S.S.R.) (English Translation)
OSTI ID:4829337

BS>A study was made of the effects of radiation sickness in rats on hemopoiesis at various periods after irradiation. Data are tabulated on the blood picture and bone marrow at periods up to 360 days after irradiation. The rate of uptake of Fe/sup 59/ and the osmotic resistance of the red cells were als measured. Normalization of the morphological picture of the peripheral blood and bone marrow 2 to 3 months after irradiation was of short duration and young forms were noted against a background of marked bone marrow and spleen hyperplasia 9 to 12 months after irradiation.
