In the lungs of rats implanted with Sr/sup 90/ -Y/sup 90/ mixtures, alveolar cells underwent hyperplasia, metaplasia, and eventually neoplasia. Two types of cancer cells developed from irradiated alveolar cells: adenocarcinoma and squamous epithelial carcinoma cells. (H.H.D.)
