The dependence of the radioinduced formate oxidation in the catalase-C14-formate system on various milieu factors (in German)

Journal Article · · Helvetica Chimica Acta

Radiation-induced C14-formate oxidation was studied under a variety of experimental conditions. Since the C14O2 yield can be increased by traces of catalase, an enzymatic and a nonenzymatic component may be distinguished. Either component of C14O2 formation is influenced by temperature, pH, gas phase, and irradiation techniques in a different manner. Highest yields are observed in N2O phase (G +CO2 = 7 to 8). Whereas an increasing effect of catalase is oliserved in O2 and N2O, there is none in N2. A small but distinct dose-rate dependency exists between 35 and 400 r/min (250 kv x rays).
