INFLUENCE OF RADIOACTIVE PHOSPHORUS ON THE LYMPHOCYTE. PARTS I-III

Journal Article · · Hiroshima Igaku (Japan)

Lymphocytes, extracted from the lymph nodes, spleen, or thymus of rabbits, were suspended in blood serum, which contained a P3/ solution. The number of mitochondria in the lymphocytes gradually diminished with lapse of time and the change was most appreciable in the case of a high concentration of P/sup 32/ (100 mu c/ml). No changes of neutral-red granules were found in lymphocyies of the lymph nodes and spleen, while those in the irritant form of lymphocytes were somewhat decreased. The survival time of lymphocytes was approximately coincident with the decay of the mitochondria, except for immature lymphocytes in the thymus whose survival time was not influenced by P/sup 32/ (Abstr.
