EFFECT OF THE INTERNAL IRRADIATION BY RADIOACTIVE PHOSPHORUS ON THE HAEMOPOIETIC SYSTEM. II. COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF INTERNAL IRRADIATION BY RADIOACTIVE PHOSPHORUS AND OF WHOLE-BODY X-IRRADIATION ON THE HAEMOPOIETIC SYSTEM

Whole-body x irradiations of 600 r and intraperitoneal injections of 5 and 8 mu c/g of radioactive phosphorus were given to rats of the Wistar strain. The reductions in the bone marrow, spleen, mesenteric lymph nodes, and thymus cell counts were studied. The administration of 5 mu c/g of P/sup 32/ gave the same level of change in the hemopoietic system as did the external x irradiation. When 8 mu c/g were given, the effects were much greater than with 600-r irradiation. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2: No. 10, Oct. 1962)
