An extrusion process using a die with a conical inlet is outlined in which the problem of lubrication is solved. The outlet of the extrusion container is closed with a closure member having a breakage resistance greater than the pressure required to distribute the lubricant throughout the space between the container and the billet but less than the extrusion pressure to be applied to the billet. The billet and lubricant are placed therein, and pressure is then exerted on the billet to push the lubricant into the space between the container and billet. After the pressure breaks the closure member, extrusion begins. (D.L.C.)
