EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE NATURE OF RADIATION HAZARDS. II. INFLUENCES OF CYTOTOXIN, PRODUCED AT THE TIME OF X-RAY IRRADIATION IN A LARGE DOSE, ON THE RECOVERY OF TESTICLE DISTURBANCES
In rabbits injected with cytotoxin for 4 weeks, the histological picture of the testicle one month after the termination of the injection revealed a marked decrease in the number of spermatogenic cells and a uniform existence of spermatogonia, spermatocytes, and spermatozoa in seminiferous tubules. The majority of spermatogonia and spermatocytes werc undergoing cell division. However, the picture two months after the termination of the injection showed hardly any difference from that of the normal testicles. From these results it is concluded that, in the animal treated with the cytotoxin, changes occur in the testicles similar to those in the testicles of the animals irradiated with x rays. When the injection of the cyiotoxin is stopped, spermatogenic cells recover enough to regenerate again within one month after thc cess:ition of the administration. (.Abstr.
