Progress on a high speed computer includes tests on the main arithmetic unit, power supply fabrication, machine construction, circuit design, arithmetic control and end connection designs, design of simplified instruction sequencing control and advanced control systems, and magnetic tape design studies. Circuit research comprises studies of tunnel diodes, saturated transistors, and flipflop circuits. Methods are under development for reducing data from bubble chamber photographs. Several uses of computers in mathematical research are outlined. The uses and operation of the Illac and IBM 650 computers are reviewed. (T.F.H.)
