ELECTRIC QUADRUPOLE MOMENT OF THE 14.4-kev STATE OF Fe$sup 5$$sup 7$

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
From a measurement of the Mossbauer absorption spectrum of ferrous fluosilicate for polarized 14.4-kev radiation, the quadrupole moment of the first excited state of Fe/sup 57/ is deduced to be +0.12 b. This value is subject to a small correction due to the internal Sternheimer effect for the Fe/sup 2+/ ion. (auth)
