Product yields from gamma -irradiated neutral methanol are given. It is suggested that trace impurities which scavenge a reactive precursor to hydrogen are responsible for the lower yields which were previously reported. The variation of yields wtth temperature, acid, and various solutes was investigated. The presence of two precursors to hydrogen is indicated by the results and a reasonable interpretation is obtained by assuming that one is the H atom and the other an electron. (auth)
